Currently, deep sea equipment maintenance is expensive. A surface vessel has to be at the location, and all work has to be done with a bulky remote underwater vehicle. A recent invention may make things a lot easier and a lot cheaper. The Eelume is an undersea snaking robot that can squirm through machines at the bottom of the ocean to maintain and repair them.
